Let The Rain Pour demo

by Hannah Fairlight

/

about

This song is about embracing vulnerability and hardship instead of hiding it, and through that, growing and attaining a sense of truth and empathy.

Another main storyline in this song is about getting rich or famous too quick, and how that can burn out someone's artistry and/or humanity and sense of empathy. It's basically saying, don't worry about me, let me be as real as possible in my process, let me achieve realness in front of people, and my pain and living history is part of that realness that I should not hide but rather celebrate. "Let the soul lose the need to impress" is about doing good art for the art's sake, not to achieve some kind of validation from others or monetary gain. True expression from one's heart, even if it's sad or painful.

I recorded this demo in the living area of one of my many transitional living spaces - this little apartment in Queens - where I was sleeping on a futon in the living room of the place. I had to record the vocals with my head and microphone under a couple of heavy blankets so as not to disturb others living there, hence the muted and somewhat gain-heavy voicing. Make-shift Vocal booth! Aaaaah the New York days.

lyrics

no need to worry bout this pain in my chest
I'd as soon be found by the oceanside
no need to worry bout this weight in my shoes
it's the water dripping down from my heart inside

no need to worry bout the cost of my crime
if livin' ain't losin' then I'm wastin' my time
and I'll let you know

let the rain pour out of my chest
'cause the sun burns out the best of us
let the soul lose the need to impress
gotta find real love in the rest of us

no need to worry bout this crease in my brow
it's the mark of my mom when the west was won
no need to worry bout the then and the now
let the wild horses beat be dead and gone

no need to worry bout this thorn in my side
'cause I can't cut it out though lord knows that I've tried
and I'll let you know

let the rain pour out of my chest
'cause the sun burns out the best of us
let the soul lose the need to impress
gotta find real love in the rest of us

no need to fret if freedom ain't free
it ain't hard to lose sight of what you wanna be
and I'll let you know

let the rain pour out of my chest
'cause the sun burns out the best of us
let the soul lose the need to impress

find real love
